Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a procedure which may be indicated to either allow a tooth broken near or below the gum line to be rehabilitated (rather than extracted) so that it can hold a crown, or crown lengthening may be indicated to improve esthetics of a gummy smile.

Crown lengthening procedure involves reshaping excess gum and bone tissue to allow more exposure of the tooth. Whether you are having crown lengthening to improve function or to improve esthetics, patients can receive the benefits of both!

When crown lengthening is performed, there is no pain expected during the actual procedure. Most patients are surprised that the only usual pain medication given is Advil/Ibuprofen. When you are at home recovering, most patients state that their discomfort is 2 or 3 out of 10. Rarely, does crown lengthening cause more discomfort.
